Working with the West Elmwood Housing Corporation and Sankofa Initiative, I designed a community space to develop Providence’s first agri-community.
User + Situation Research
Gathered from interviews and site visits of ten community gardens, five playgrounds, and six community gathering spaces within Providence County, data from West End Housing Corporation, Sankofa Innitiative, and the 2010 US Census.
Research revealed four core goals for the space: gardening, gathering, playing, and security. All equipment and layout configurations must work toward the core goals to encourage and sustain community engagement.
Many elements overlap categories to form cohesive user experiences and spatial flow in a cost effective manner. Structures are designed and arranged to encourage member participation and interaction with a goal of community growth.
